![]() As the game progresses, the melds get harder to complete. ![]() Each player is allowed seven deals, and the objective of the game is to reach a particular meld or “contract” by the end of each round. Each player turns one card face up as the upcard, and then turns the rest face-down as the stock. The game begins with a total of zero points, with each player having eleven cards. If you win a contract in round eight, you win. The contracts in round three, four, and eight are two groups of three cards and two sequences of four cards. The contract in round one is two groups of three cards, the contract in round two is two sets of four cards, and so on. The player who fulfills the most contracts at the end of the round wins. In Shanghai Rummy, each round is composed of a contract.
